I want to explain something here. These two .gifs are the first flash animations that I had ever made. I did these during my first semester in college in a computer animation class back in 2010. I had no idea what Flash even was.

Now let me just ask you something: Which one looks like it took the most time?

Our assignment was to experiment with Flash on our own, get used to the tools and settings and that sort of thing. I decided to go frame by frame and observed a gif taken from Treasure Planet. The result was that first gif you see up there.

I turned that first gif in to class the next day…and got a failing grade.

“This is not the proper way to use Flash” my teacher said. “Too complicated. This is not what people want to see. No use of tweens. Zero points.”

I was heartbroken to get a zero on my first assignment, so my teacher decided to give me a second chance. “Animate a running stick figure with tweens” the teacher said. So I did. I turned in that 2nd gif you see, and got an A.

To this day I am appalled by the way I was treated. To all of you animators out there, I recommend learning on your own. It could save you time and money. If you still choose to go to college, then that is fine too. You do what you want, just don’t let ANYONE try to downgrade your creative capability.

For anyone who doesn’t know, I graduated this past sunday.

Being in the top of my class I was asked to speak at graduation. When the principal asked me what I was going to speak about, I told him I wanted to talk about the boy who killed himself because he was bullied. He got really upset at me, and told me “you’ll just bring the ceremony down” and “no one wants to hear about that”

He doesn’t know that the boy was my friend. And that the same kids who bullied him used to bully me.

I bitched at him and told him I was going to do it one way or another so he might as well give me his blessing. Eventually he conceded, but he said I had to keep it on a lighter note.

He also promised me that the six of us would be on stage together. And that he wanted each of us to be happy with what we’re speaking about. I told him I have social anxiety, and that I had to have someone with me. I also wanted to go last.

He made me go up by myself, and I had to go in the middle, not last. And even had the nerve to give me a dirty look when I insisted on having my inhaler because I knew I’d have a panic attack.

I had the loudest round of applause. And after the ceremony, the boy’s grandmother and mother both came up to me and gave me a hug and thanked me for what I did. I also was stopped several times and messaged on facebook several times by people I dont know and thanked.

Now tell me how I brought the ceremony down. Tell me no one wanted to hear about it. Tell me I didn’t do a good thing. Tell me I deserved to be treated like shit.

A Glasgow nightclub has installed a two-way mirror which allows male revellers in private booths to spy on unsuspecting women as they visit the toilet! With no notification or signage anywhere in the venue many female club goers have been left feeling embarrassed and used. Although they do briefly show the mirrors in a promo video, the club has been quickly deleting comments and posts on their social media from club goers trying to alert others to the situation. This is pretty much illegal and hugley violates privacy. Thank you The Shimmy Club for giving us a shiny, new, creative and cool take on objectification.

Remember ladies:

“No space, leave the place” (fingernail test)

A two way mirror must be set INTO the wall, not placed on top of it.

If you rap/knock against the mirror, one installed onto a wall (a normal mirror) will make a dull sound, because there’s something behind it. A two-way will have more reverberation.

Use the flashlight on your phone to shine on the mirror, if it’s a two-way, you’ll be able to see into the other room.

You can also shield your eyes and see in if you lean up against the glass.

The room being viewed will have to be brightly lit (10x brighter than the room looking in), so if you’re in a typical dimly lit club bathroom, you’re ok.

This is Jakey (Damian cosplayer) with his new friend Ethan at the San Jose Comicfest. Ethan is an extraordinarily artistic 8 year old with his own booth at the convention, whom Jakey consistently returned to during the day. When asked by Mick Gray (the inker for Batman and Robin), what his favorite part of the convention was, Jake told him it was meeting Ethan. At the end of the con, Ethan gifted the spider-man he had been working on all morning to Jakey and even signed his work. Ethan’s face when he handed the art to Jakey… omg. My heart cannot take how adorable they are. Jacob is now practicing how to draw a robin, so he can have something to give Ethan tomorrow. <3
